A villain could be seen as a person who thrives or in colloquial terms, gets their kicks off of the misfortune of others. In the play Richard III, Richard uses his villainous ideas to reach his goal, such as, using his deformity as a shield and targeting people during their most emotional times.

Deception, refers to the act of misleading someone from the truth to believe what one wants them to. The dramatic impact would be the way in which the play or work affects the reader and to what degree. By saying that no other features of the drama are important, this means that deception is the key theme of the drama. Richard, as well as other characters, use deception, for example, Buckingham fooled the crowd and priest about Richard being the rightful heir to the crown, and when Richard fooled Clarence into thinking that it was Queen Elizabeth who sent him to the tour and not himself.
